For those of you new to 3 in 30, the process works as follows: we will select five pitches from those submitted. The writers of those selected pitches will write a first draft of a 10-minute play that will be due a week later. From those drafts, three plays will be selected for production. We will provide notes to the writers of the selected plays for suggestions for rewrites, which will be due in another week. In the meantime, we will search for directors and begin the casting process. After the second drafts are completed, the casts will rehearse the shows over the next two weeks with performances at 10:00pm on July 10 and 11.
The theme for this round is VOLATILE. Any play that ties into that term is what we’re seeking. The performances will be on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11.
The schedule for this round of 3 in 30 will be as follows:
Pitches Due: Monday, June 1
First Drafts Due: Wednesday, June 10
Casting: Saturday, June 13-Saturday June 20
Second Drafts Due: Saturday, June 27
Rehearsals: Sunday, June 22-Sunday, July 5
Tech Rehearsals: The week of July 6
Performances: Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11
All of these plays should have a minimalist feel to them, with small casts, set, prop and tech requirements in order to facilitate the quick production schedule.
For the story pitch, you are not required to use the below format but we have provided it as a guideline. We are looking for the following:
1) Title
2) Type: A comedy or drama breakdown is sufficient, but if you’re planning to write a musical or absurdist play or something completely in iambic pentameter this is the place to tell us.
3) Theme: What are you trying to say with this piece?
4) Cast Composition: How many actors do you need? How many men and/or women? Any special age or other requirements? Keep in mind that, given the limited window for production, smaller casts will be better. Certainly no more than five.
5) Set and Prop Requirements: Again, keep it simple.
6) Summary: Give us a short description of what happens in the story. Preferably no more than a paragraph or two.
7) Special Notes/Additional : Anything else we should know about your play to induce us to produce it.
Submit the pitches to this address (03in30@gmail.com), no later than Monday, June 1.
If you aren’t interested in writing but are interested in directing or acting, you don’t need to wait until the selected plays have been announced. Let one of us know and we’ll keep you in mind for an appropriate role. If you have any questions, feel free to let us know. 3 in 30 Committee (Chris Morris, Greg McGill, Brendan Michna, Nikki Smith, Stephen Woosley)
